Wrestling in Hooper Bay

Before we look at some pictures from the Wrestling Meet this weekend, here what's been going on around the village.

Snuggling with her daddy watching a Razorbacks game.

These two love their iPhones.

We drove by the new school.  They have announced that it will be finished in November, and we will move into it over Christmas break!

Waiting outside to pick up her daddy from the "airport."

I took the next few pictures at and around our airport.

The tundra grass is turning brown.

Kinsey, me, and Becca modeling the latest fashions for this fall... hoodies, sweat pants, and boots!

The airport runway is along the horizon ahead.

Look, there's a plane!

This plane, from the bush plane company "Grant," was dropping off cargo.

Hooray for care packages from family and friends!

I hung up our new decor on the wall :) I just tacked scrapbook paper behind the pictures.

We enjoyed our evenings last week rooting on the Cardinals.
Now we are excited to cheer them on next week in the WORLD SERIES!

There are raggedy stray dogs that hang around the school.

Our friend Becca made this Chicken Broccoli Braid this week and it was good!!!  It was packed with chicken, broccoli, cheese, red bell peppers, onions, salt, etc.  Then she closed it up with crescent rolls and brushed egg/water on top.

On Friday morning, Nathaniel and I left with 10 wrestlers to go to Hooper Bay.
9:30am, still dark outside.

A 9-passenger caravan.

The two planes picking us up.

Nathaniel taking off with half of the team.

My plane taking off with the other half of the team.

Flying over Nunam Iqua (also called Sheldon's Point) on our way to Hooper Bay.

The A on the map is Alakanuk, and the B is Hooper Bay.  We are on the Yukon River (fresh water) and Hooper Bay is on the coast of the Bering Sea (salt water).

When we got to Hooper, we set our stuff down in the school and walked a half mile to their AC store.

The next few pictures are from our walk around Hooper to the store.

They have boardwalks, almost like sidewalks that run up a few of the roads.

The store had pumpkins!

I bought one kiwi for $1.50 and I ate it in about 60 seconds.

Hooper has sand everywhere!

Walking back to the school after our trip to the store.

Hanging out in the library to pass the time before the meet.

We watched a movie in the library because Hooper still had school in session.

Yes, it rained sideways almost the entire time!

The view outside their cafeteria windows.  Looking out at the Bering Sea.

They had a weights room.

Banners of the schools in the Lower Yukon School District.

The weather cleared for a little bit.  There is a barge in the distance on the Bering Sea.

Eating dinner Friday night in the cafeteria.

Warming up on the mat.

Coach Nathan giving his team a pep talk while they stretch.

One match at a time...

Only 4 teams competed at the meet, including us, Hooper Bay, Scammon Bay and Chevak.

Big brother congratulating his younger sister on her first match and first win.

I was in charge of many exciting things like holding glasses, gear, water bottles, and the medical kit.

Standing upstairs looking down at the school's main entrance and cafeteria.

The classroom we (the girls) spent the night in.

I helped get our girl wrestlers ready for day 2!

Warming up for day 2.

There crowd was very small at 9 am on Saturday morning.  The last match on Friday night ended at 10:30pm.

It warmed up just a little on Saturday.

Clear weather looking at the Bering Sea on Saturday morning.

Packed up after lunch on Saturday for our flights home.

Piled up in a pick-up truck going to the airport.

Hooper had a concrete runway.  I just noticed it because we have a gravel runway.

We flew up the Bering Sea coast to Scammon Bay to drop off a couple kids.

Scammon Bay.

It looks like their school is up on the hill.

The tundra leaving Scammon Bay.

The marshland is a mixture of lime green, burnt orange, and golden yellow colors.

Half way through our 40 minute ride, everyone was fast asleep against their windows.

Flying back over Nunam Iqua. ("Sheldon's Point")

Passing over the Yukon River.

Turning in for the landing.

We are back and exhausted!  Many wrestlers had their first wins this weekend.
