Boating, Eskimo Dancing, & Salmon

This week was very eventful.  I got an invite to boat 8 miles up the Yukon to Emmonak for a quick shopping trip.

Checking out the small shops by the Kwikpak Fishery.

Checking out the deli at one of the stores.

Shopping with a new friend.

Walking around Emmo, spotted this cool log cabin house.

Tying the boat to the dock near the AC (Alaska Commercial) store.

Fresh produce!

I was going to buy some applesauce and saw it was $8.25,  but then I thought, mmm, better not.

Crusin' down the Yukon with cappuccinos in hand.

What's that up on the river bank?

 A sneaky fox!

On Friday night, our community held an Eskimo Dance to celebrate the new and returning teachers.

Playing with dance fans.

Making new friends.

Nathaniel went out moose hunting for the first time as an Alaskan resident.

Everyone's Walmart food is now in.

Alaska Fish & Game has been giving away their samples.

The guys didn't get a moose, but they did come back with ducks and geese.

 Cleaning and filleting the salmon.

Cutting the fish into two fillets, right along the spine.

I took a break from taking pictures so Nathaniel could teach me how to cut the salmon.

My first fillet

 Caviar, anyone?

Cornelius, the teacher watch dog.

Washing off the salmon in the sink.

 Beautiful silver/coho salmon scales.

Putting the salmon into freezer bags.

Makin' cookies (eating cookies) with the girls.

  1. Your fox picture is so cool! And I am SO jealous of both your cappuccino and your AC store adventure!
