Alaska Fish & Game come every year to the Yukon River to take a sample of the salmon.
Last night they came and brought over 50, 2-3 foot silver/coho salmon... and gave them away for free! Here is how the night went...
Prepping for the fish. Fillet knives out.
Waiting by the shore for the boat to arrive with the fish.
Yellow sky at 10:00 pm
The fish are here!
Loading the fish into tubs on the four wheeler.
Loading the salmon.
At sunset the sky constantly changes colors.
Silver/coho salmon
Sharp teeth
Last view of the sky before we left the slough shore.
Walking back on the "board"walk.
Teachers filleting the salmon at 10:30pm.
I found out these are Silver/Coho salmon, not King. However, this was one of the largest ones.
Male salmon.
Female salmon. Caviar, anyone?
Finally getting dark at 11:30pm. Getting kinda messy.
Fresh fish in the freezer.
The stock pile from the night in Sammy's freezer.
The next morning, while Nathaniel went moose/game hunting with the guys, I went on a walk to back to the docks with Culea and Sarah.
Culea has small boots, so Sarah was helping her get across the puddle.
Back in the Yukon River.
Me with the Arkansans, Culea and Sarah.
Happy Labor Day weekend! Going to enjoy the extra day off.
I am so jealous of this post! I want some fresh Salmon :) I hope you have some rice and seaweed and maybe some avocado around the house because this is a perfect opportunity for sushi!
