Trip to Nunam Iqua

Our school planned to have a girls basketball tournament this weekend, but due to the weather, it was cancelled.  That gave us a chance to snow machine about 15 miles over to Nunam Iqua (pronounced New-num Ick-wah) to watch our boys team.

Goofing around after school Friday.

Dinner experiment this week: Beef Lettuce Scoops
I totally made up this name and recipe because these were the ingredients I had: lettuce, white rice, beef, and Panda Brand Broccoli Beef sauce (and for some reason it seemed like a good idea).

We ate them like tacos.

It tasted alright.  Next time, I would use grilled STEAK, and I would toss the meat in a bowl to coat it with the sauce.

In the classroom, we continued to write Pen Pal letters.  Currently, we are working on letters to Tuscumbia, AL, Columbia, MO, North Syracuse, NY, and Cranford, NJ.

We gave up on shoveling our porch.  The wind creates this snow drift even if we clear a path.

We had to get our fingerprints redone, so conveniently an Alaska State Trooper came through our village.  Yes, I asked him if he has been on the show "Alaska State Troopers" and he said he had a couple times.

Easy Baked Beef Ravioli
Ingredients: marinara sauce, frozen beef ravioli, mozzarella cheese.
 1. Spread a thin layer of sauce on bottom of pan.

2. Simmer frozen ravioli for 5 minutes (or as directed on package).

3. Strain ravioli.

4. Place ravioli on top of the sauce.

5. Spread more sauce and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top. (Not bad with cheddar either!)

6. Bake at 350 for 15 min, or until cheese is melted.

Friday night we ventured to Nunam Iqua (also called Sheldon's Point) to watch the boys play basketball against Nunam and Kotlik.
The red line is the route we took to Nunam.  The blue is the route we take to Emmo.
Both trails follow the Yukon River.

Go Braves!  Good job on the win.

Dressing up to go back home.  The snow machines warming up in front of the school.

The snow was blasting sideways.

Jana and Sammy getting ready to go too.

We made it back safely... except our snow machine ran out of gas just before the dump!  It was only a mile from home, so Sammy and Jana went to get the gas can.
