Welcome Back to the Village

Leaving Anchorage for St. Mary's on a 30 passenger plane.

Hopping on a 9 passenger caravan from St. Mary's to Alakanuk.

Gorgeous green marshland below.

Flying over our village.  The giant building with the red roof is our new school.  Unfortunately there were some building delays so we are unpacking and settling back in our old school this semester.

Our village along the slough which flows into the Yukon River.

We are very grateful to move into another teacher housing unit.  This one has dry wall!  It took a couple days to get completely settled in.

One nice thing about returning is that we already had local friends.  So, the day after we arrived we had a family invite us to hop in their boat to make a trip to Emmonak, 8 miles up the Yukon river.

Walking down to the slough to catch a ride in our friend's boat.

Skipping rocks... boys will be boys.

Shopping at the wonderful AC (Alaska Commercial) Store in Emmonak.

Would you look at this!  I mean just look at that.  A half gallon of milk for $6.65.  Would you believe it is over $7 now in our village?  I bought three to stock up.

This is the Kwikpak Fisheries barge.  It parks here seasonally.  The majority of our high school students work here during the summer packing fish and doing other jobs for the fishery.

Cruising down the Yukon River.

Bright beautiful skies.  The sun has been going down well after 1am this week.

We found this ping pong kit that Nathaniel's mom sent last year.  Good times are going to happen right here.

We still have over a week until the students come back so I got shipped out to Mountain Village for a couple days to get training for our new Language Arts curriculum.  How special, the bush plane came just for little ole me!
