Wrestling in Emmonak

We traveled to Emmonak twice this week.  The first time we went by boat for a quick shopping trip.  On the weekend, we went by plane for the Wrestling Meet.

On the walk to the boat, we saw some fish drying.

The boat with a seal spear.                                                         The new store in Emmonak.

Parking the boat in Emmonak.

Aisle signs and slushie machines!

                      Automatic doors.

I thought of my Dad.

Cheerios on sale for $6.79.  Get em quick... regular price is $7.15!

Packing up to go back.  Check out the major erosion on the bank.

Boating on the Yukon River.

Cold wind on the boat.

Wrestling practice: getting ready for the first meet.

Doing the dishes.  What a great husband.

On Friday, we took a 5 minute plane ride to Emmonak.

 The village of "Emmo."

Emmonak School.

They made signs for the teams up in the bleachers.

Log cabin house.

Two story house... rare sight.

We walked with our wrestlers to one store.  It had it's own deli.

Fresh produce... beautiful.

Back at Emmonak School, we waited in the gym while they set up for the meet.

Getting a pep talk from Coach Nathan.

Ready to wrestle.

There was not a referee, so Nathaniel reffed the meet.

Packed house.  A lot of Alakanuk fans came by boat.

Getting advice from Coach Clark.

We spent the night in the school.  Our team eating breakfast the next morning.

Scammon Bay wrestlers getting advice from Nathan, the ref.

Nathaniel running a wrestling clinic for all the competitors at the end of the two-day meet.

We walked around the village before our plane arrived.
This is the Catholic church.

Shopping at the AC store, the one we went to earlier in the week on our boating trip.

Having fun with automatic doors.

We went home on two 207 bush planes.

The other bush plane.

This is the smallest plane I have ridden on yet.  Seats 6 passengers and has no aisle.

We had to climb over the seats to get in and out.

Frosty mornings.

This week in my classroom, we made children's books.

Laminating their book covers.                    Binding the pages together.

 Finished books.

Reading their books to an elementary class.

Everyone wanted to see the pictures.
