Walking Along the Yukon River

Nathaniel and I took a walk this weekend to check out the Yukon River.

 A pond along the way.

Moose droppings...

We took 'short cuts' through the trees.

We had to walk through the dump to get to the river.

The road goes through the dump, but it is getting narrower with all this trash.

Mmmm, the smell of burning garbage.

A stream that runs through the road.

The road leading to the "docks."  It is called the docks because it is where all the barges and boats used to dock (now our slough is wide enough for barges to come through.)

At the Yukon River.

It is still frozen in most parts, but not safe enough to drive on.

We started walking along the edge of the bank, all the way down to where the river meets the slough.

Two snow machines taking the risk across the river.

The eroding river bank.

A house near the edge of the bank, where the slough meets the river, will be in danger in a couple years because of erosion.

Another house about 10 feet from the edge of an eroding bank.

Walking behind the "Native Store."
